CHIKASHIGE, MORIKAWA was a Pupil of Kunichika and Produced most of his Work Between 1869 and 1882. As can be seen in his Woodblocks he Emulated the Style of his Master but was Able to Include a Touch of his Uniquely Individual Style, Especially in the Facial Expressions of  his Subjects which were mostly Kabuki Actors.

HIROKAGE, UTAGAWA
was a pupil of the famous Ando Hiroshige and was only active as a printmaker from about 1855 to 1865. Among the minimal works known are some of the classic series including the 36 Views of Fuji from the Eastern Capital and this comic series of Edo. His Work is Extremely Rare because of the Minute Output and One of the Best Investments to be Found in Antique Woodblock Prints.

SADAHIDE, UTAGAWA lived from 1807-1879 and was a Student of Kunisada. His original name was Hashimoto and he produced mostly landscape and lifestyle woodblocks including scenes from the Western enclave of Yokohama depicting Westerners in Japan. His work was obviously appreciated by Westerners as his woodblocks were displayed in the World Exhibition in Paris in 1866.

SADANOBU, HASAGAWA lived from 1809 to 1879 and is known to have produced woodblocks from 1834 until 1879. He studied under Shijo painter Ueda Kocho then Kunisada and Kunimasa in Osaka. Among his Personal names Naraya Bunkichi and Naraya Tokubei and He is the First in a Four Generation Long Line of Woodblock Artists, The last of whom is still producing woodblocks for Uchida publishing company.

SHIGENOBU 1826 to 1869 otherwise known as
UTAGAWA HIROSHIGE THE SECOND

Shigenobu was both a pupil and an adopted son of Ando Hiroshige who signed his works with his own name until the master's death in 1858 when Shigenobu married the daughter of Hiroshige and earned the right to call himself Utagawa Hiroshige II. It is known Shigenobu completed many unfinshed works of Ando Hiroshige but he also created some new scenes for new series and a number of classic scenes in his own right, signing them Hiroshige. In 1865 his marraige was dissolved and from then until his death four years later he again signed his work Shigenobu or used the name Ryusho.

THE CHUSHINGURA meaning STORE HOUSE OF LOYALTY and most commonly known as THE TALE OF THE 47 RONIN is the Most Famous Classic Historical Tale of Ancient Japan. Ronin is the word for Masterless Samurai and the Tale is Based in the City of Kyoto, Edo During the Tokugawa Shogunate in about 1701.
Almost Every Kabuki Recital and Woodblock Artist has Created their Versions of Events from this Tale in Acts of up to 20 but usually around 16.
Although based on history the Tale has expanded and changed in many tellings and now is almost a Mythological story.

SHOSAI, IKKEI was a Student of Hiroshige the Third and was Only Active for About Ten years between the Late 1860s and the Late 1870s. Most of His Work Consisted of Comic Scenes of Edo Life in the Early Meiji Era. The Meiji Era was Between 1868 and 1912 but he only produced work in the first Ten Years of this Era.

YOSHITORA, UTAGAWA was a Student of Kuniyoshi Who Only Worked Between 1840 and the Mid 1870s. Most of his scenes show historical incidents and legends of town scenes. As is the case with All Woodblocks Artists of the 19th Century he Created His Versians of some of the Famous Series but his Work is Uniquely Individual and these Series Display his Amazing Insights and Creativity.
