KORIN, OGATA
Ogata Korin was a painter foremost, woodblock print artist second. An artist of the Rinpa school, he is particularly known for his gold-foil folding screens. A screen in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston depicting Matsushima is a particularly famous work, and his “Red and White Plum Blossoms” in the MOA Museum of Art and “Irises” in the Nezu Museum are National treasures of Japan.
TANAKA, FUU
Fuu Tanaka is a little known but talented woodblock print artist whose prints are normally limited editions in very low numbers, and so very hard to find.

HIROSHIGE, ANDO
Ando Hiroshige (1797-1858) needs little introduction. Most famous for his 53 Stations of the Tokaido Trail series, he produced over 8000 woodblocks including a number of landscape and historical series.

NISHIYAMA, HIDEO
Hideo Nishiyama was born in Kyoto and graduated from the Kyoto City Specialist School of Painting. In 1948 he created a series of woodblock print designs for the publisher Unsodo called Twelve Views of Kyoto.

HIROMITSU, NAKAZAWA
Nakazawa Hiromitsu was Born in Tokyo and Lived from 1874 to 1964. He studied Western painting at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts for four years prior to 1900 under the tutorship if Kuroda Seiki and during the difficult years of the early 20th Century was chosen as one of the artists to create a scene from the Complete Works of Chikamatsu which was published in the 1920s.

SHIGEMASA
Goto Torakichi was born in 1842 and took the artistic name of Shigemasa, at around 20 years of age. He also called Hiroshige the Third as he studied under the master and was allowed to sign his prints with the master’s name. He died at the age of 52 in 1894.
